This is all thanks to the support we have received from individual donors. We could not do this without you.
Your support allows us to stand up, speak out and fight back for our values and vision for South Jersey and the Shore. The funds are processed through our fiscal sponsor, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund. So you’ll get a receipt from them, but no worries, your contribution goes to us! With a strong team of committed volunteers NJOP is able to do so much more for those in need. We always need a variety of skill-sets and are flexible in creating the right position for you at NJOP. For more volunteer information, Contact Us.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZER WANTED!
Tired of seeing working families and seniors struggle while big corporations and the wealthy keep raking it in? Mad that thousands of families are losing their homes to foreclosure and are still not recovered from Superstorm Sandy? Head-in-your-hands disbelief that we’ve got no plan to deal with rising seas and future storms? If you believe we deserve better, and see yourself as part of the solution, consider coming to work at NJOP.
The New Jersey Organizing Project was founded by Sandy survivors to address urgent recovery needs. We are a multi-issue regional network of people standing up for South Jersey and the Shore. When there is a problem we face that is too big for an individual to tackle on their own, we take broad public action in order to make change happen. We act and get results. We’re non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots membership based organization. NJOP staff organizers play a critical role in moving NJOP’s agenda for a stronger South Jersey and Shore.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Identify, inspire, recruit and engage new NJOP members.
Research issues raised by members, and train members to do research themselves.
Organize planning meetings to develop action strategies and plans for winning on issues and achieving goals.
Play a lead role in designing and implementing strategic plans for organizing campaigns; support members in carrying out agreed upon strategies to win concrete victories.
Develop and lead popular education and skill-building trainings to recruit new members, and develop leadership.
Craft online organizing emails, and develop online strategies to raise awareness about issues and build support for our organizing.
Recruit dues paying NJOP members, and work with members to recruit additional dues paying members and raise funds.
Maintain and update NJOP databases regularly with new information.
Travel to different parts of the state to organize meetings or campaigns in impacted communities.
Fundraising, grant writing and reporting.
Experience and Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate is driven, passionate, strategic, hard working, innovative, and wants to change the world. You will work to build a strong base of everyday New Jerseyans to address social, economic and environmental injustices. You are committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and able to handle a heavy workload without dropping the ball.
Ability to work well, and easily, with everyday people
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good computer skills
Organizing, canvassing, or phone banking experience a plus
Sense of humor and ability to handle rejection a plus
