There are two programs with applications closing in February that could help you pay for housing in 2023.
- The Affordable Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) program is a tax rebate for both renters and homeowners. Renters will receive $450, and homeowners will receive either $1,500 or $1,000 based on their income. If you rented or owned and occupied your home in October 2019, we’re willing to bet you qualify, so make sure to apply. It’s quick and easy – we gave it a try, and the application process didn’t take any longer than 5 minutes.
ANCHOR applications are open now. The deadline to apply is February 28, 2023.

- For renters, Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program applications are opening soon too. This program helps low-income renters keep a decent, safe, and clean roof over their heads by subsidizing part of their monthly rent payments. You can learn more about whether you’re eligible for this program – or if you fit into one of their priority categories, such as veteran, homeless, disabled, domestic violence, etc. – on the opens in a new windowDepartment of Community Affairs’ website. You can also check the opens in a new windowincome limits for your county to see if your household qualifies.
Section 8 preliminary applications are open starting on January 17, 2023. They will close on February 3, 2023.

Make sure to get your applications in for these programs before they close. Even if you don’t think you qualify for either of these (or if you’ve already applied), please make sure to share this information with your friends, family, and neighbors – you never know who could benefit from it.
