Tell Your Representative: Save New Jersey Lives – Protect Medicaid

Medicaid is critical for all New Jerseyans – including those seeking help for a substance use disorder.

We have to show our elected representatives the important role that Medicaid plays in ending the overdose crisis – and ensuring affordable, accessible, lifesaving treatment for everyone who needs it. Join us in sending a letter to your Congresspeople to tell them NOT to make Medicaid cuts. No matter why you count on Medicaid, please join us in demanding that our representatives protect Medicaid.

Here’s what we’re telling our reps: For years, Medicaid has been playing an important role in reducing overdose deaths and ensuring that whoever seeks treatment for a substance use disorder is able to afford it. Research shows us that people on Medicaid are more likely to struggle with a substance use disorder than the people who have commercial insurance. However, if we don’t protect Medicaid, New Jersey could lose up to $10 billion for our health insurance programs and hospitals – and as many as 700,000 of us could lose our health insurance entirely.

Experience paints an even more complete picture: everyone has been touched by the overdose crisis in one way or another. Many of us have been through it ourselves, stood by a loved one with substance use disorder, or otherwise feel the impacts of the thousands of lives lost in our New Jersey communities. We know firsthand how crucial it is for lifesaving treatment to be accessible and affordable.

As the budget deadline for the federal government comes closer, our New Jersey communities are afraid of losing the coverage many of us need to stay alive.
