December 29, 2022 - Passed the MAT Act nationwide
As part of the People’s Action Overdose Crisis Cohort, we passed the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act (MAT Act) – a federal bill with nationwide effects.
Before the MAT Act, there was the X-waiver: a federal limit on prescribing buprenorphine. allowing only 1 in 12 healthcare providers to prescribe this life-saving treatment to patients with substance use disorder. But not anymore. We made our voices heard as people on the front lines of the overdose crisis, and worked closely with Congressman Pallone, who was the chair the MAT Act passed out of in the House. Getting rid of the X-waiver means way more people can potentially access this important treatment.
