Grassroots advocates and storm survivors are calling on the federal government to do better when it comes to disaster recovery funding. They say storms like Tropical Storm Ida left tens of thousands of dollars in damages to homes yet many survivors are still waiting to receive assistance.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said the Biden administration agrees that relief money takes too long to be distributed and called on Congress to reform the system. With the storm season officially underway, survivors and advocates say the disaster recovery system needs to be fixed now, not later.
