October 30, 2024 - Won Hurricane Ida mortgage forbearance

After over a year of fighting for what we need, we passed a law so New Jersey’s Hurricane Ida survivors can get a break from their mortgage payments, avoid foreclosure, and get the time and funds to start working towards a real recovery.

A previous version of this legislation was first introduced in May 2023, and even though it passed unanimously in both the State House and Senate, Governor Murphy conditionally vetoed it. But we didn’t give up. We introduced a new bill that same month, and by speaking out and working closely with our bill sponsors in the State Senate and Assembly, finally got it signed into law just in time for NJOP’s 10th anniversary as an organization.
